Promotion-Ready Leaders, Higher Productivity, Less Conflict
Third River Partners is a management consulting firm that helps other organizations develop their leaders. When it set out to ready its own people for promotion, it turned to the Townsend Leadership Program.
The Organization
Third River Partners is a management consulting firm with offices in Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, working with blue-chip clients like The Hershey Company, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Cleveland Clinic, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Its team of eighteen specializes in change leadership and shared-goal work. Developing leaders is what Third River does for a living, which makes its decision to invest in its own people through TLP worth noting.
The Challenge
Third River set out to identify and prepare its leaders for promotion. Once the work began, the goal widened: helping people get past the blind spots and rough edges holding them back, hit goals they had been missing, strengthen staff relationships, and make better hiring decisions.
The Approach
Heidi met that need through the Townsend Leadership Program. Sessions worked both sides of the job at once: the hard skills, like running projects and communicating clearly, and the human ones, like defusing conflict and motivating a team. Small-group discussions turned those into practice with candid input from peers, and one-on-one coaching kept each person moving on the goals that mattered most to them.
The Outcome
The lift in morale showed up almost immediately. Putting what they learned into practice, team members solved problems more collaboratively, productivity climbed, and conflict dropped. The small-group work helped them weigh situations and make better calls, and with stronger communication and a focus on getting better, the team felt far more equipped to handle change and whatever came next.
The program behind this story is the Townsend Leadership Program. If you’re preparing leaders for what’s next, a discovery call is a good place to start.
