Gallup CliftonStrengths Coaching

Stop pouring energy into fixing your weaknesses. Learn to lead from the strengths you already have.

CliftonStrengths is Gallup’s assessment of talent. It ranks 34 themes in the order they show up in you. This assessment lets you see, in black and white, what you naturally do best.

Then, strengths coaching lets you turn that report into something you can use. You can apply it to how you devise strategy, build teams, and guide them in working together.

Heidi Sadecky is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach with more than 30 years of experience, working with both individuals and teams across Pittsburgh and beyond.

The Case for Strengths-Based Development

Most development programs try to fix what is “wrong” with you. This approach, the mindset of lack, is so ingrained in us that we don’t even question it.

Strengths-based development does the opposite. It starts with a mindset of abundance: your strengths. Because you have them.

Gallup’s research is consistent: people improve fastest, engage most, and perform best when they build on their natural talents instead of grinding away at their weak spots.

One Gallup finding showed how managers can prevent the quiet quitting phenomenon in their teams: simply focus on the strengths of the members. When you do, the odds of their becoming actively disengaged drop to about one in a hundred.

It is a simple shift with large results. Focus on your strengths. Work from there. You stop trying to be someone you’re not, and start getting better at being who you already are.

What Is CliftonStrengths?

CliftonStrengths, which you may know by its former name, StrengthsFinder, is an online assessment from Gallup. It includes 34 talent themes, which are labels that describe all the ways human beings process information, work, and relate to each other.

The themes fall into four domains: how you get things done, how you influence others, how you build relationships, and how you think.

The Gallup CliftonStrengths assessment ranks these themes for you personally. The order runs from the ones that come most naturally to you down to the ones that do not. Your results are specific to you.

Two people can share a top strength and express it in completely different ways, which is exactly why a CliftonStrengths report on its own is not enough, and why the coaching is where it comes alive.

How Gallup Strengths Coaching Works

This type of coaching is a short, focused process:

Take the assessment

You complete the CliftonStrengths assessment online, which takes about half an hour, and receive your personalized report.

Make sense of it together

In a coaching session, Heidi helps you interpret your results and what they mean. There are no generic definitions here. Instead, it’s a discovery and discussion of how your specific combination of strengths plays out in your work, your leadership, and your relationships.

Put it to work

You leave with concrete ways to apply your strengths to the decisions and challenges in front of you, plus a plan to keep building on those strengths.

Strengths Coaching for Individuals

If you are a leader, a professional, or someone weighing a career move, strengths coaching gives you language for what you have always sensed about yourself, and a way to use it on purpose. It helps most when you are stepping into a new role, deciding what comes next, or trying to understand why some work energizes you and other work drains you.

Gallup finds the payoff is real: people who learn to use their strengths are six times as likely to be engaged in their work, and three times as likely to say they have an excellent quality of life.

The goal is simple: discover who you are, and own it.

CliftonStrengths for Teams

When the members of a team know each other’s strengths, change can happen quickly. People stop talking past each other and start using a common language. Each kind of work flows to the people suited to it. Friction that felt personal turns out to be a difference in wiring, and suddenly it is something you can work with rather than bury.

Gallup’s research backs this up. In Gallup’s strengths-based development studies, teams that build on their strengths see up to 23 percent higher employee engagement, up to 29 percent higher profit, up to 19 percent higher sales, and up to 72 percent lower turnover. People are more engaged, they perform better, and they stay, which shows up in the bottom line for a department or an organization.

Heidi runs strengths sessions for leadership teams, project teams, departments, and entire organizations. The sessions can take the shape of a retreat, an offsite, or an ongoing engagement.

WHY HEIDI

Your Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach in Pittsburgh

Gallup certification is not a weekend badge. It is a proven track that takes an intensive course, a coaching exam, and recertification every two years. Heidi has held it for years, and she pairs it with more than 30 years coaching leaders, much of it as an executive coach, so your strengths connect to the actual decisions on your desk.

That pairing is what matters. A report can name your strengths. A coach who has spent decades in the room with leaders can tell you what to do with them.

Proof

“We’ve participated in many trainings, but this experience was truly unique! Heidi’s guidance not only deepened our understanding of leadership but also strengthened our team in ways we didn’t expect.”

CliftonStrengths or Working Genius: Which Is Right for You?

The two answer different questions. Gallup CliftonStrengths asks what your natural talents are, so you can develop and lead from them. Working Genius asks what kind of work you thrive in, and how a team fits together to get things done.

When to choose CliftonStrengths

Choose CliftonStrengths when you want a deep, personal read on your talents to build on, ranked and specific to you. It is the strongest foundation for individual growth and self-aware leadership.

When to choose Working Genius

Choose Working Genius when the focus is how work actually gets done, especially on a team: who should own which stage, where projects stall, and how to run better meetings and hiring. It works for an individual and shines with a team.

Many leaders use both. On a discovery call, Heidi will help you choose, or sequence them so the results complement each other.

Gallup CliftonStrengths FAQs

What is Gallup strengths coaching?

It is built on the CliftonStrengths assessment, which identifies your top talents from among 34 themes. Unlike personality tests that put you in a box or push you to fix weaknesses, it focuses on what you naturally do best so you can leverage it.

What about my weaknesses? Shouldn’t I work on those?

Gallup’s research is clear that you gain more by investing in your top talents than by wrestling with your weaknesses. Coaching helps you do that while staying honest about the blind spots that matter.

Is this for individuals or teams?

Both. Heidi coaches individuals one-on-one and runs strengths sessions for teams and organizations.

How is CliftonStrengths different from Working Genius?

Gallup CliftonStrengths coaching helps you identify and name your natural talents so you can develop and lead from them. Working Genius focuses instead on the kinds of work that energize or drain you, and on how a team gets things done together, which makes it useful for staffing, meetings, and stalled projects. Heidi is certified in both methodologies and can help you choose, or use them together. See Working Genius.

Do I keep my results?

Yes. Your CliftonStrengths report is yours to keep and return to for years.

What does it cost?

It depends on whether it is individual coaching or a team engagement, and it includes the assessment. See the investment page, and ask about the right option for you.

How do I start?

With a discovery call.

Find out what you do best, and start leading from there. Let’s talk.

Book a discovery call to talk through strengths coaching, and she will help you decide whether to start with your own profile or your whole team’s.
