Lead Your Company as Well as You Built It
You’re already a leader. The day you stood up a whole organization where one didn’t exist before was the day you earned your leadership cred.
But the instincts that got it off the ground are not the same ones that scale it. Heidi Sadecky can keep you from learning that the hard way.
Heidi develops founders into the leaders their companies need in order to grow. And she does it in a setting built for how isolated the job is: a room of other leaders carrying the same weight.
The Part of Founding Nobody Prepares You For
You taught yourself the product, the market, and the hustle. Then you got some employees, and without any preparation, you became the manager, the project lead, a coach, a strategist, and the person everyone brings their problems to.
And the bigger the company gets, the more of it runs through you, until the thing slowing it down is the founder who can’t let go of any of it.
This is not a character flaw. It is the predictable next problem after the one you already solved, and it has a solution.
Why a Cohort Is the Smartest Move a Founder Can Make
If you’re looking for leadership coaching, your reflex is to want it one-on-one: fast, private, on your schedule. That works, and Heidi offers it.
But the thing a founder is missing is not just a coach. It is a room of other leaders wrestling with the same things you are. Here’s what you’re up against:
- Building every system from scratch: hiring, comp, operations, culture. A leadership cohort is full of people who already built theirs, so you borrow their hindsight instead of paying full price for every mistake.
- Drafting strategy alone. Go-to-market, pricing, the next bet. The cohort is a small, candid panel that tells you where your thinking is thin before the market does it for you.
- Making every major call with no board and no peers. The cohort becomes your board of advisors that pressure-tests your decisions before they cost you.
- Trying not to be the bottleneck. Everything routes through you, which is the real reason you have no time. Cohort-based leadership development points straight at getting you out of the center of it all.
- Sitting alone at the top. You cannot be fully honest with your team or your investors. You are always giving them the positive spin. The cohort is the one room where you are not the founder, but just another leader working it out.
Out of all the participants in the Townsend Leadership Program, founders often get the most out of it. Their hardest problems are exactly the ones a room of experienced peers is built to solve.
You Think You Don’t Have Time. That’s the Symptom.
Most founders hear “one day per month for 12 months” and stop listening. That’s fair. But look at why the time isn’t there: you are holding every system, every decision, and every relationship in your own two hands. That is not a scheduling problem. It is the bottleneck.
The bottleneck is what the program removes. A structured day each month to stop being the constraint is the highest-return time a founder can spend.
It is the rare stretch of hours spent working on the business instead of inside it, and on yourself as its leader.
The founders who protect that time tend to become the ones who no longer have to do everything themselves.
And if a full year is genuinely more than you can take on right now, E4 runs the same model in four months, and one-on-one coaching bends entirely around your calendar. There is a version that fits. The cohort is the one worth stretching for.
Ways to Work With Heidi
For a founder, the order of preference goes like this:
- The Townsend Leadership Program. The year-long cohort, and for founders, the richest version of leadership work. One full day a month with a small group of leaders like you, the kind who will tell you what your own team won’t, and who have probably already solved the problem sitting on your desk. Learn more →
- E4. The same model in four months, for founders who want the cohort experience in a tighter commitment. Learn more →
- Executive coaching. One-on-one, built around your situation and your schedule. The most flexible option, and a strong start when a cohort has to wait. Learn more →
- Gallup CliftonStrengths coaching. A fast, foundational read on how you are wired to lead, useful on its own or before anything else. Learn more →
Building out your team, too? Corporate training develops a whole group together. Not sure what fits you? That is what a discovery call is for.
Why Founders Work With Heidi
Founders work with Heidi because she has spent years in the room with people making this exact transition, the shift from building a company to leading one. She has watched what pulls a founder out of the weeds and what keeps them stuck, often enough to recognize where you are before you have finished explaining.
She also runs her own practice, so the founder’s reality, wearing every hat and betting on yourself, is not theoretical to her. With a master’s in organizational leadership and thirty years of experience across industries, the founder’s core problems, like building systems, hiring well, and getting out of the center of everything, are squarely her terrain.

Startups & Founders FAQs
I really don’t have time for a year-long program.
“I have some extra time for a leadership development program,” said no founder, ever. And this is the point: the lack of time is the bottleneck talking, while a leadership development program offers you the only focused solution for removing that bottleneck. If a year is truly out of reach right now, E4 compresses it into four months and one-on-one coaching works around your calendar. The cohort is simply the version worth rearranging things for.
Wouldn’t one-on-one coaching better suit how busy I am?
One-on-one coaching is the most flexible option, and a good place to start. But “busy” is the symptom that a cohort is particularly good at curing, and the peer experience gives you something a coach alone cannot: a roomful of people in front of you, there to support you, who have solved the problem.
Will the other people in the cohort even understand a startup?
The room is a mix of leaders from different industries, often including other founders and owners. That range is the value. The specifics differ, but the underlying problems, like hiring, scaling, leading people, developing product-market fit, and making constant decisions, are shared. You will get advice you could never have found inside your own four walls.
My company is still small. Is it too early for this?
Usually the opposite. The habits you build while the team is two or ten compound by the time it is twenty or fifty, and it is far easier to learn to lead before a large organization is absorbing every mistake. Earlier is cheaper.
What is the return on my investment?
The return is the hours you get back when you stop being the bottleneck. The senior hire you get exactly right. The strategic move you test before betting the company on it. The burnout you do not walk into. Once they count what doing it all alone was costing them, most founders find the math isn’t close.
How do I get started?
With a discovery call. Tell Heidi what your startup struggles are, and she will tell you plainly whether she has a cohort or other program for you. It’s a conversation, not a commitment.
